NPP's new analysis on 2004 county-level data and statistics focuses on the distribution of Food Stamp. Research findings include:

  • Half of all low-income people did not receive Food Stamp Program benefits.
  • Counties with lower poverty rates and higher median household incomes had lower percentages of low-income people that were Food Stamp recipients.
  • A significant number of counties, 13.2 percent, had below-average percentages of Food Stamps, yet had above-average poverty rates.
  • The rural South had the highest percentage of enrollment in the Food Stamp program and more than half of all children were eligible for lunches through the National School Lunch Program.

Welfare

I have never used a food stamp in my life..I have worked and worked through illness and injury..It is pride that keeps me off governement assistance..Not need..Cause I sure could use some help from time to time..
I'm also a woman..Who raised a child alone.

But I find it ironic that I feel so much pride to the point of doing with less or without .And that includes food and medical care..

I think this is a good question..Just why do we mind welfare so much?
Our governemnt officials blow through our money like it's a free for all..
They don't mind dipping into the goverment coffer. Hey...They don't mind double dipping!~

But we are always outraged about welfare!
And yet it's acceptable for the government and the people in control of our money to use as much as they like, have as much as they like..And enjoy a lifestyle much much better than our own because of it..
And not one of them feels apologetic..Possibly, a little incensed that they don't get MORE of it..

So what is 'our' problem with "Wefare"???

Welfare

'OUR' problom is that we dont need so much of this greife!

Good!!

Good I am am tired of paying for people anyway!!!

reply

ok so if you need anything ever even after death then good luck getting any sypathy from others nor from God and say hi to elvis and other loser lost soals in the hottest place for your soal in hell.

I think you've misunderstood Cass

I think the point the anonymous commenter was making was not that she is tired of paying for people; in fact, you don't really pay for people either. What she was saying is why do people have such aggression toward welfare when the government spends so much more on non-sense. Its interesting how much frustration and aggression we feel toward one another, but not surprising--this is exactly the way society must be set up for a capitalist economic system to work. Not much has changed since colonial times in the U.S., its still about divide and conquer. I say this, Cass, truly with all respect and kindness: You may want to start thinking about who the real enemy is, and it surely isn't the people who collect welfare.

What is the income level

What is the income level which qualifies someone to receive foodstamps. Also what is the average wage earned in the USA.
Also, are retirees who receive less than 900 dollars per month for a family of two eligible for assistance? Also at what income level is a person considered above the poverty level?
I would like to pass this info on to Americans who live abroad.Thank you... Dr. Patrick Gabriel, on behalf of many.

income amount

the amount for 2008 is max. $1100.00 per month which anyone on low pay $6-$7.50 need to be able to make it in life on if person wants to live.trustee for each township will only help those that make under $737 per Month. I thought that those of you on good paying jobs might want to know this answer.

Thanks for your question,

Thanks for your question, Dr. Gabriel. Unfortunately we don't have that information, but you may have luck by visiting the website of the Food Research Action Council at: http://www.frac.org/

You should also have luck "googling" the U.S. Average wage.
