Energy consumption per capita


Americans rank high in their energy consumption, especially when compared to the citizens of other similarly developed countries.

Energy conservation is not typically considered a part of national security strategy. However, many of the conflicts around the world have been linked to the competition for natural resources.

Note: The top per capita energy consumers are: Qatar, Iceland, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Luxembourg, Netherland Antilles, Kuwait, Trinidad and Tobago, Canada and the United States. Most of the energy consumption of Iceland, however, is in the form of renewable resources. Source: World Resources Institute, EarthTrends Database
