NPP Employment Opportunities

The National Priorities Project is a progressive nonprofit research and education organization that makes the federal budget accessible and understandable to citizens so they can influence how public money is spent. It is seeking a dynamic half-time Executive Director to lead the organization in partnership with a supportive and engaged national board of directors and dedicated staff. The Executive Director will provide vision and direction for the organization, while playing a lead role in fund development, strategic thinking, and overall operations.

This position, while initially part time, has the potential to grow to full time based on the desire of the Executive Director, the configuration of staff, and the needs of the organization.

Responsibilities

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall fiscal, programmatic, and administrative operations of the organization, and will serve as one of its leading spokespersons. Specific responsibilities include:

  1. Providing vision and direction for the organization, including maintaining and securing relationships with, and funding support from, individual donors and foundations, as well as overseeing the organization’s strategic direction;
  2. Building relationships and collaborations with leaders of other national organizations and representing the organization to the public;
  3. Overseeing the creation of the overall approach to foundations and donors;
  4. Supervising, hiring, and firing all department heads; and
  5. Acting as liaison to the board.

Experience

Preferred

  1. Significant experience as director or manager of a national or regional educational or nonprofit organization, with extensive management and interpersonal skills;
  2. A proven track record of reaching fundraising goals through individual donor and foundation cultivation;
  3. Experience creating and implementing strategic plans;
  4. Knowledge of domestic and international economic, social, and national security trends and familiarity with the federal budget;
    Experience with, and a commitment to working with, progressive and other national labor, social justice, and peace organizations;
  5. Experience working with boards of directors; and
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including familiarity with digital communication and engagement strategies.

Location

The National Priorities Project's national office is located in Northampton, Massachusetts, a desirable small community in New England. Staff members currently work either at the national office or remotely from a number of US cities. The right candidate, who works well independently and who can build a strong team and maintain excellent communication, could potentially work from a remote location.
