Summer Interns Tackle Big Budget Issues

Carter Davis

Over the coming weeks, we'll be highlighting NPP's amazing summer interns. The stellar efforts of talented student interns throughout the year allows NPP to expand and deepen what we do across all aspects of our work. The first in our Summer Intern Profiles series is Carter Davis, who joined NPP as a Development & Communications Assistant this summer.

Hi, my name is Carter Davis. I am from Beverly, Massachusetts and am currently an undergraduate at UMASS Amherst where I am pursuing a degree in economics, focusing on macroeconomics, econometrics and comparative economic systems. Academically, I am also interested in government and politics, sociology and history. Some of my other interests include watching and playing sports, hiking and rock climbing, reading science fiction and fantasy novels and video games.

As an intern here at NPP, I am working to develop best practice policies to help expand NPP’s readership through online and social media. I’m also examining impact metrics to help us understand just how many people are being reached by NPP’s federal budget resources and tools.

NPP’s work is important to me because it tries to keep the government accountable for how it spends taxpayer money by making this information not only accessible to anyone who wants it, but also easy to understand. Armed with this type of knowledge, I believe citizens can be a lot more effective when taking part in the democratic process. So far, working at NPP has been a very valuable experience that has really broadened my horizons, introducing me to how nonprofits operate at a basic level and teaching me about communications and outreach. I hope to continue to learn a lot more in the coming months!
