MAGA Priorities: Golden Dome Over Hungry Families

Once again, the MAGA regime is prioritizing billionaire Pentagon contractors over struggling families.

President Trump and the MAGA regime are weaponizing hunger against millions of Americans by refusing to fund SNAP during the Republican-led government shutdown, resulting in the first ever lapse of food stamp benefits beginning on November 1.

This is a MAGA-manufactured crisis that jeopardizes the health and safety of roughly 42 million people, or 1 in 8 Americans, who rely on SNAP to access enough food each month.

At the same time, the Trump administration is claiming that $156 billion in Pentagon funding passed in MAGA’s Big Bad Bill may be used to fund the Department of War’s highest priorities during the shutdown. This includes $24 billion for Trump’s absurd Golden Dome project, a dangerous fantasy that funnels taxpayer dollars to Pentagon contractors like SpaceX, Palantir, and Lockheed Martin who profit from endless war.

The $24 billion that MAGA is protecting for Golden Dome during the shutdown is three times more than the $8 billion in food stamps they will hold back from hungry people in November.

It costs approximately $8 billion to fund SNAP for the month of November, and they don’t have to force families to go hungry just because the government is shut down. The government has billions of dollars set aside under the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which oversees SNAP, for just such an emergency. In fact, the Department of Agriculture Secretary is required by law to use contingency reserves to prevent service disruption. However, the Trump regime is choosing not to release the funds. In an effort to spare millions of families from the financial strain of losing benefits, a coalition of governors, state attorneys general, and some cities has mounted a legal challenge to force the Trump Administration continue to fund SNAP during the shutdown.

Ultimately, MAGA’s ‘profit over people’ agenda could not be more clear: the MAGA regime will allow billionaire Pentagon contractors to spend public money during the shutdown, but won’t protect food benefits for hungry families, even when they could
