Write a Letter to Your Congressperson

Educator Toolkit: Peoples Guide to the Federal Budget

Activity Type: Individual
Chapter: 6, 7 and 9
Objective: Students will be able to write a letter to their Congressperson about something they would prioritize regarding federal spending and/or revenue, and what impact their decision would have on them or their community.

  1. Students will write a personal letter to their Congressperson. (Note: The Take Action section of NPP's website offers great information to get the students started.)
  2. Offer the following prompt: Write a letter to your Congressperson something you feel passionately about that should or should not be funded by our federal government. Be specific about how this would have an impact on our community. Feel free to also include your beliefs regarding individual taxation (the majority of federal revenue).
